Pipe Up for Charity |
In 1953 3,500 pipers and drummers marched through Edinburgh to raise money for the Marie Curie Cancer Care fund, setting a world record. In 2000 the event was repeated and the record was again broken by 8,800 participants. The 2005 event will consist of between 12,000 and 20,000 - it will be held on 21st August in Holyrood Park, Edinburgh. Maclean pipers will be welcome. Visit the website. |

Clan Maclean Association Piping Bursary |
The Clan Maclean Heritage Trust decided in 2002 to institute a worldwide Piping Bursary for a promising young Maclean (or Sept of the Clan Maclean) piper. The bursary consists of two weeks full time tuition at the College of Piping, Otago Street, Glasgow, Scotland, with food and accommodation included. Candidates will be competent pipers who can demonstrate a commitment to improving their piping and also whom the Selection Panel feels will best benefit from the Bursary. The candidate should be under 25 years of age.Application is to be made in writing to me: Lieutenant Colonel Donald MacLean, 'Maimhor', 2 Fullerton Drive, Seamill, Ayrshire, KA23 9HT, Scotland. The letter should include personal details (full name, address, age, job/qualifications), piping background (Tutors, competitions, Bands etc.). |
|
I take this opportunity to put out an Appeal to Macleans with an interest in piping to give a donation to "The Clan Maclean Heritage Trust" for this Bursary and future ones. Cheques in Pounds Sterling or credit card details to the Heritage Trust Treasurer, Dr James McLean, 31 Ellenabeich, Seil Island, by Oban, PA34 4RQ, Scotland. |
